Suspense remains over India's formidable batsman Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Ishant Sharma in the Test series against Australia. Both were involved in three Tests against Australia, but both are in rehab at the Bengaluru-based National Cricket Academy. The NCA's medical team is also monitoring it.
According to the Mumbai Mirror, Rohit and Ishant's fitness state was recently discussed in a meeting with the NCA team. The fitness of both has not improved much. The team management, selectors and the BCCI have been informed informally about this. This will be a major setback as Virat Kohli will return home after the first Test under paternity leave.
Earlier, India's head coach Ravi Shastri had expressed doubts about Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma's participation in the upcoming Test series. He said he would have to reach Australia in a few days if he wanted to play a Test. Both Rohit (hamstring) and Ishant (side strain) are on rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy due to muscle strain. The Indian Cricket Board, however, has not yet announced a date for his departure for Australia.
The duo could take part in the practice match against Australia-A between December 6 and 8, given the 14-day mandatory quarantine in Australia, if they leave India on Monday, but that doesn't seem to be happening now. Cricketers going straight to Australia from the IPL have been allowed to practice during the quarantine as they are in the bio-bubble.
