For nearly six months, there has been widespread conflict in India and China over the border dispute in eastern Ladakh. But India is not only plaguing China on the defensive front, but it has also given China's sleepless nights on the economic front, and in the form of a ban on Chinese apps, it has got a brahmastra that will allow China to Can irritate you for a long time, that too without firing a shot.
Ever since the Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps in the context of the Galvan Valley attack on June 29, 267 Chinese-based apps in China have been banned, most notably Tick Talk, Share It, UC Popular apps like Browser, Ali Express are also included.
There is a simple game of central government behind it. Making best use of its IT Acts, the Central Government is telling the paper dragon its status. According to the Financial Express report , there is no such list of Chinese apps that can be finished in one stroke. That is why the government is targeting those apps which are also popular, and which are also downloaded the most.
As soon as these apps are identified, they are first monitored closely. Thereafter action is taken against them. This monitoring process should be continuous and uninterrupted, as restricted apps are looking to re-enter the market through multiple routes.
In such a situation, India has made the situation worse for China on continuous economic front by not banning all the assembled Chinese apps. Whether it is the search engine Baidu, or the mobile version of the famous game PUBG, India has not left any Chinese app anywhere. The process of banning apps one by one is also important because as long as China does something against it, the ban will take its effect to a large extent. Apart from this, Section 69A of the IT Act gives the government complete freedom to take action against any app in the name of national security.
Apart from this, no special permission is required to ban the app, and there are acts of banning the app such that app makers cannot get interim relief. At most, they can put their point before the government, on which they conduct an investigation, but till the relief is given, either the case is closed, or the app itself is terminated.
So far, the apps have been banned in four phases, and only the restricted apps have not got any relief in the first round. Since there is no possibility of any reduction in border tension between India and China, the Chinese administration is being pressured by the ban on Chinese apps, and the way these restrictions have kept China restless, India is undoubtedly benefiting from it.
