Goa police on Thursday arrested actress Poonam Pandey for allegedly entering a government property and shooting a pornographic video. Several citizens of the city of Konkona in South Goa district accused the government machinery of misusing the shooting, after which two police personnel were also suspended.
Poonam Pandey, who was staying at a five-star hotel in Sinkarim, North Goa, was detained by a team of Kalangut police on Thursday afternoon and later handed over to Kanko police, an official said.
Superintendent of Police (South) Pankaj Kumar Singh said Poonam Pandey has been taken into custody "for questioning". A complaint was lodged against Poonam Pandey on Wednesday for obscenity during a shoot at Chapoli Dam in Kanko town. The water resources department, which manages the dam, had lodged a complaint.
Many in Kankona on Thursday called for a shutdown in the city, demanding action against the police officers who allegedly provided security to Poonam Pandey and the team linked to the shoot. Superintendent of Police Tukaram Chauhan and a constable have been suspended. The case is under investigation.
Poonam Pandey came into the limelight only recently when she announced her sudden marriage last September. Not only that, just two weeks after the marriage, she accused her husband Sam Bombay of molesting and harassing her. Sam Bombay was then arrested and later released on bail. Even then, the couple went on a honeymoon in Goa and there was an incident between the two.
