New Delhi: To make calls to landline mobile phones across the country, customers will be required to dial zero before January 1. The Department of Telecommunications has accepted Troy's proposal. The Telecom Authority of India had on May 29, 2020 recommended putting 'zero' before the number for such calls. This will enable telecom companies to create maximum numbers.
The Department of Telecom said in a circular issued on November 20 that it had accepted TRAI's recommendations for a change in the method of dialing numbers from landlines to mobiles. This will facilitate the creation of a sufficient number of numbers for mobile as well as landline services. According to the circular, after applying this rule, to make a call from landline to mobile, one has to dial zero before the number.
The telecom department said telecom companies would have to allow all landline customers to dial zero. This feature is currently available for calling outside of one's area. Telecommunications companies have until January 1 to adopt the new system.
The change in dial mode will enable telecom companies to create an additional 254.4 crore numbers for mobile services. It will help meet future needs.
