What are PAN cards?

Here's how to get an Instant e-PAN card

According to the Income Tax Department, it takes about 10 minutes for an e-PAN card to be issued through the Aadhaar card under the instant PAN facility. About 7 lakh PAN cards have been issued so far under this facility.

You can create free PAN cards

PAN cards are also issued through NSDL and UTITSL, but both these institutes charge a fee for this facility. So if you apply for a PAN card through the Income Tax Department portal, you do not have to pay any fee.

PAN Card will be available in PDF format

The person applying for the PAN card will get the PAN card in PDF format. Which will have a QR Code. It will contain your required information like your name, birth, date, photo etc. You will have to download your e-PAN. You will receive a 15-digit acknowledgment number upon completion of the application process. A soft copy of your PAN card will also be sent to your mail ID.

Here's how to get a free PAN Card

  • First go to https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home.
  • Here you will see your right and Instant PAN through Aadhaar option. Click it.
  • You will then be asked to enter your Aadhaar card number on the new page. Enter your Aadhaar number here and tick 'I Confirm'.
  • OTP will be sent to your registered mobile phone. Put it on the site and verify.
