After the first cricket Test of the series against Australia in Adelaide, Team India captain Virat Kohli will return home on leave due to fatherhood. While the Indian team's goal is to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy , Captain Kohli is on the verge of setting a world record.
Cricket will be another milestone in his career
With Virat Kohli hitting a century, it will be another milestone in his golden cricket career. Kohli, 32, has a total of 41 centuries as captain in international cricket (Test + ODI + T20) and is on par with Australia legend Ricky Ponting. If Kohli manages to score a century in the Pink Ball Test starting in Adelaide on December 17, he will set a world record for the highest century in international cricket as a captain, surpassing Ricky Ponting.
136 runs against Bangladesh
As captain, Virat Kohli could get two innings against the hosts on Australian soil to hit his 42nd century in international cricket. Kohli became the first Indian batsman to score a century in a day-night Test in November 2019 when he scored 136 against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. It was Team India's first day-night test. Speaking of his century as captain, Kohli can reach the top with just 188 matches while Ponting has scored 41 centuries in 324 matches.
Will become the batsman to hit more centuries
If we talk about the highest century in international cricket, Virat Kohli has scored 70 centuries so far. He is followed by Ponting (71) and Sachin Tendulkar (100). Kohli will surpass Ponting by scoring a century and become the second highest-scoring batsman after Sachin.
