Father's Day 2021: When is Father's Day? Know the history and importance of this special day

Fathers are those members of the family whose contribution to the upbringing of the child is often overlooked. They work day and night to keep their families healthy and happy, these unintentional efforts are often taken lightly and turn into responsibilities that they have to fulfill.

So to appreciate and honor their hard work, we celebrate Father's Day. He is one of those unsung heroes of the family who want nothing but love in return. This special day is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June. This year Father's Day is falling on 20 June 2021.

This day is organized around the world on different dates with their own traditions of honoring fathers.
In Europe, this day is celebrated on March 19 as 'Saint Joseph's Day', while in the United States, it is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. In Australia, it is celebrated as a national holiday in Samoa and Estonia, while in South Korea it is celebrated as Parents' Day.

This day was created by a woman named Sonora Smart Dos, who was raised by her father alone along with 5 other siblings. She wanted to establish an official equivalent of Mother's Day for male parents. On June 19, 1910, the state of Washington declared this day as Father's Day.

However, on May 1, 1972, President Richard Nixon declared Father's Day as a national holiday. The first official Father's Day ceremony was celebrated on June 18, 1972. In the document, he wrote, "Let every American make this Father's Day an occasion to renew the love and gratitude for his father, which grows through all and endures over the years."
