The US did a little better in this case, in which about 3% of cancer cases there were due to excessive alcohol consumption. The number of such patients was 52,700 in the world's richest country. Mongolia topped the list with one out of every ten cancer patients linked to alcohol consumption. Similarly, in Kuwait, where alcohol is banned, the number of cancer cases related to alcohol consumption was the lowest. The authors acknowledged that their study was not able to look at the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on drinkers. 

Reduced risk of cancer in women

According to the report published in The Lancet Oncology, the researchers used data on alcohol sales from 2010. During this, alcohol consumption and other data were linked with cancer incidence in 2020. Globally, the incidence of cancer due to drinking alcohol is less in women than men. According to the sample size collected for this study, about 77% of men and 23% of women were victims of cancer due to alcohol.
