Dr. Neeraj Kumar (Pediatrician) of Felix Hospital told that pneumonia is an infection in the lungs which is caused by bacteria, fungus and virus. This causes swelling in the lungs. It gets filled with fluid. The symptoms of cold and flu are very similar. Pneumonia can happen to a person of any age. It mostly affects children up to five years of age.

Dr. D.K. Gupta told that in the year 2015, 920136 children under the age of 5 years died due to pneumonia, which is 16% of the deaths of children under the age of five years. Pneumonia is easily preventable and the cause of death in children is treatable, yet one child dies from the infection every 20 seconds.
Children can be protected from the dangers of pneumonia by getting them vaccinated on time. The pneumonia vaccine is pneumococcal conjugate. This vaccine is given at one and a half months, two and a half months, three and a half months and 15 months. Pneumonia easily catches malnourished children. In winter, a small mistake can lead to pneumonia in children. Do not give anything extraneous to the children except mother's milk for six months.
