Makar Sankranti 2023: The month of Magh will start from January 7, 2023. The month of Magha has special significance in Hinduism. Many major fasts and festivals are celebrated in the month of Magh. 1. On Makar Sankranti, the sun starts its journey from Dakshinayan to Uttarayan. According to astrology, the movement of the Sun from the Tropic of Capricorn to the northern Tropic of Cancer is called Uttarayan, while the journey of Dakshinayan begins when it moves from the Tropic of Cancer to the southern Tropic of Capricorn. In the scriptures, Uttarayan is called the day of the gods and Dakshinayan is called the night of the gods.

2. On Makar Sankranti, Surddev goes to his house to meet his son Shani. In astrology, Shani Dev is the lord of Capricorn. Surya and Shani Dev have a sense of enmity with each other, but when Suryadev himself goes to meet Shanidev, then this festival is celebrated as the meeting of father and son. In this way, by worshiping Sun God on Makar Sankranti and donating things related to Saturn, the defects caused by Sun and Saturn in the horoscope are removed.

9. Makar Sankranti is also called Til Sankranti and donation of sesame is considered to be of special importance on this day. By donating sesame on this day Shani dosha is removed.
