University of Kerala gives big relief to girl students, now they will get 'holiday' for periods!

Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) will now give 2% relaxation in attendance to female students. This exemption will be given to them under 'menstrual relief'.

Girl students studying in a university in Kerala can avail 'menstrual relief' as an additional relaxation during the absence of attendance. Keeping in view the long-standing demand of girl students, Kerala 's renowned Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) has approved an additional two per cent relaxation for the shortfall in attendance of girl students in each semester. In such a situation, if a girl student does not go to university because of periods, her attendance will not be reduced, because she can take advantage of 'menstrual relief'.

An autonomous university, CUSAT has more than 8000 students in various departments and more than half of them are girls. An order issued by the joint registrar said, "After considering the requests for menstrual benefits to female students, the Vice-Chancellor may grant an additional relaxation of two per cent in attendance to female students in each semester, subject to reporting to the Academic Council." Have ordered to give approval.

Student Union's demand fulfilled

According to sources in the university, for some time various student unions were pressing for providing menstruation benefits to girl students. A proposal in this regard was formally submitted to the Vice-Chancellor recently. After it was approved, an order was issued. When contacted, a CUSAT official said that relaxation will be different for each girl student as it will depend on her attendance.

How can girl students take advantage?

The CUSAT official said, 'It will be different for each student. Every girl student can claim two percent of her total attendance as menstruation benefit. Therefore, the exact number of holidays has not been given in the order. This order will be applicable to female students of all streams studying in the university. It is also expected to be implemented with immediate effect.

Namitha George, chairperson of the university's student union, expressed happiness that their demands were accepted without raising any objection. He said, 'According to the rules, it is necessary for CUSAT students to have 75% attendance every semester to appear in the exam. But with the new order, girl students will get two percent relaxation in this. In this way, now they will be allowed to give the exam even on 73 percent attendance.
