The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is being organized in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh. PM Narendra Modi will reach Indore on Monday to celebrate this special day. The connection of this special day has been with the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated on January 9 to show the contribution of the Indian diaspora in the development of the country . This year its programs started in the country from January 8 and will continue till January 10. This time the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is being organized in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh. PM Narendra Modi will reach Indore on Monday to celebrate this special day. The connection of this special day has been with the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

Even though Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was celebrated in the country for the first time in 2003, but the date for this was kept on January 9. Know why this has been done.

That's why the date of January 9 was chosen

January 9, 1915, was the date when Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, returned home from South Africa i.e. India. That's why January 9 was chosen to celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. For the first time, the decision to celebrate this day was taken according to the recommendations of the High Level Committee on Indian Diaspora headed by LM Singhvi. The decision to celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was taken after the announcement of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee.

What is the aim of celebrating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas?

The aim of celebrating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is to bring the achievements of Indians living abroad in front of the world so that through this the world can be made to realize their strength. Through this special day, the overseas Indians are given an opportunity to connect with the countrymen.

PM Modi also played an important role in connecting the overseas Indians with the country. Wherever he goes on a foreign tour, he takes a different identity of India among the diaspora. With that step of his, the overseas Indians are more attracted towards India. The way NRIs gather in PM Modi's address proves that the NRIs look at the leadership of the Prime Minister with full of hope.

Most expatriate Indians in the world

According to the United Nations report, Indians have the largest number of expatriates in the world. In 2019, their number was 1.8 crores worldwide. Mexico ranks second in the number of migrants and China is third. According to The International Migrant Stock 2019 report, the number of migrants worldwide is 272 million. One third of this is from only 10 countries of the world. In which India is at the forefront. Mexico is on the second position with 1.18 crore and China with 1.07 crore people.

Foreign investment in India is increasing. Its direct impact is on the economy. Pravasi Bharatiya is playing its important role. According to a report, FDI in India is expected to increase in 2022. It is estimated that this year it can cross $ 100 billion. The government believes that foreign investment in India will cross the $100 billion mark.
