Children under the age of 18 are in the grip of drugs, mostly girls – this survey is scaring

The government is running many types of operations against drugs. A shocking survey has come out from Kerala. Here boys and girls below the age of 18 years are getting intoxicated.

A few months ago a shocking video surfaced on social media. In this , a young woman was seen shouting loudly when she was caught by the police during a raid at a hotel in a town in central Kerala . It was later revealed in the investigation of this incident that the girl, who was once a brilliant student, was trapped in a drug trap and was being used as a drug smuggler.

It was one of those incidents that shook the collective conscience of the Kerala society, following which the government took action against those involved in this illegal business in the southern state. Kerala Police conducted a survey among the youth below the age of 21 years. In this, another surprising thing came to know that 40 percent of these youth who got caught in drugs were below the age of 18 years.

Most girls caught in drugs

The most frightening thing was that most of these were girls and after falling into the drug trap, they were being used as smugglers. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) MR Ajit Kumar said, earlier drug cases used to be more in colleges but now more cases come in schools and girls are more victims of drug abuse. Kumar, the state nodal officer for Yodha, the state police's anti-drug campaign, said women traffickers were being used to lure other girls into the trap.

Kumar said that they first befriend school going girls and then slowly push them into the dangerous world of drugs. Senior police officer said that this business is happening more on roadside carts. To eliminate the problem of drugs from schools, the police raided 18,301 shops and small shops near schools in the state and registered 401 cases. 462 accused were arrested while 20.97 kg Ganja, 186.38 gm MDMA and 1112.1 gm Hashish were seized.

Incidents of sexual abuse after intoxication

Counselor Anju Dias, posted at the Thiruvananthapuram District Child Protection Unit, said, "Cases of drug abuse are very high among school children. When we counsel them, they admit to being drug addicts but never tell from where they got the drugs. He said that along with intoxication among girls aged 13 years and above, incidents of sexual abuse also come to the fore.
