For years the transgender community remained marginalized. Was a victim of double faced society. But with time, changes are also taking place. Now transgender people facing discrimination are trying their hands in new fields to make a fresh start in life. In Udupi district, a group of transgenders living in other districts have opened an eatery for people looking for food at night.
Poorvi, Vaishnavi and Chandana, who used to beg on the streets of Udupi, decided to stand on their own feet by opening an eatery near the Udupi bus stand. They run the restaurant late in the night from 1 am to 7 am. This restaurant is no less than a boon for people traveling at night and those working in night shifts.
Delicious breakfast and lunch with tea
Delicious breakfast and tea can be enjoyed in the restaurant. As most of the hotels in the city are closed during the night, now a large number of people are coming to this eatery run by transgenders. All the three transgenders said that the response received from the public is encouraging and they have received respect from the people. He said that he is now living with his head held high.
Samiksha Kunder invested money
The Udupi police had recently intensified night patrolling to check illegal activities of transgenders. Amidst the lack of trust in the transgender community, these three tried their hands in a new field, breaking the stereotypes of centuries. Transgender Samiksha Kunder, the first MBA degree holder in the state, has invested in his restaurant. Kunder said that acceptance from the public is important even for running a small business. However, he has started work with positive energy.
