Odisha Politics: 'I have come to clean the system', former chief secretary of Odisha joins Congress


Odisha Ex-Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik Joins Congress: Former Odisha Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik joined the Congress party on Friday (February 10). Bijay Kumar Patnaik joined the party in the presence of All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal, Congress' Odisha in-charge A Chellakumar and Odisha Congress president Sarat Patnaik in the national capital Delhi. Later he also met Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. 

Bijay Patnaik retired in 2013. He said that he has come into politics to re-establish democracy in Odisha and to clean up the system.

According to news agency PTI, Bijay Kumar Patnaik said, "I have joined politics with the aim of cleaning up the system in Odisha, where people are feeling helpless under the current governance model."

Patnaik also said that he would not hesitate to contest the elections in 2024. He said, "I will work to end misrule and restore democracy in Odisha."

The former IAS officer said that at present there is a peculiar situation in Odisha. People do not know whom to approach in times of need as MLAs and ministers are unable to resolve their issues.

Patnaik said that people's representatives and MPs are saying that they are helpless, so there is a need to clean the system. He said that the democratic channels have been closed and it is necessary to revive the system so that the voice of the people is heard.

Why didn't you join BJP?

When Bijay Kumar Patnaik was asked by reporters why he did not choose to join the BJP, he replied, "When we are talking about an alternative, only Congress is the real alternative because BJD and BJP are 'one and the same'." on the page' (like-minded). 

He accused the ruling Biju Janata Dal of closing doors for the public in Odisha and said that he joined the Congress party because it is the oldest party which follows liberal values ​​and always follows the open door policy.
