The house where there is no Shaligram is like a crematorium… what does the Purana say on this special rock?

Shaligram Shila has its own religious and mythological belief in Sanatan Dharma. It is worshiped with devotion. Read today what has been said about it in the Vedas and Puranas.

The Shaligram stone brought from Nepal has reached Ayodhya. Two Shaligram Shilas have reached Ramsevak Puram after a journey of about six days. After this it was worshiped with Vedic mantras. It is being told that both these rocks are six lakh years old.

Both Shaligram Shilas have been brought to Ayodhya through two trucks. One of these weighs 26 tonnes and the other weighs 14 tonnes. On these two stones, the idol of Lord Rama will be made to be installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the grand Ram temple being built in Ayodhya. A unique enthusiasm is being seen all over Ayodhya for the arrival of Shaligram Shila.

Importance has been told in Puranas

The importance of Shaligram has been told in the Puranas related to Sanatan Dharma. It has even been said in Puranas that the house which does not have Shaligram is like a cremation ground. According to Padmapuran, the house where Shaligram is kept is like a place of pilgrimage. The worship of Shaligram is similar to the worship of Lord Vishnu. Obstacles are removed by seeing and worshiping it and happiness comes in the whole environment including the house.

The greatness of Shaligram has been told in Skanda Purana. On the other hand, in Prakritikhand Adhyay 21 of Brahmavaivarta Purana, it is written that by worshiping Shaligram, sins are washed away, sorrows go away. Wherever the water of Shaligram rock is sprinkled, there one gets the virtue of performing Yagya.

What is written in Shivpuran?

The importance of Shaligram Shila has been told in Shivpuran. According to Shivpuran, Lord Vishnu himself had taken abode in Gandaki river. It is said that this is the same Gandaki river from where two Shaligram Shilas were brought to Ayodhya. According to Shiv Purana, after taking abode here, Lord Vishnu himself had said that he would reside on the banks of Gandaki river. All the creatures living in the river, their feet, nails, teeth and other parts of the body will be marked on our body and their effect will be divine.

What is Shaligram?

This is a special type of stone, which is found in the bed of Gandaki river in Nepal. It is also called fossil stone. It is usually black in colour. Its shape is round oval. There is also a white stripe on it. This stripe is crescent shaped. This symbol has its own religious belief. It is considered divine. These fossil stones also have holes in them. In Hinduism, Shaligram is considered as the form of Lord Vishnu. It has been counted in 24 incarnations. This is the reason why it has special importance. It is worshiped with devotion.
