Indian Eye drops: An appeal has been made not to use the Indian eye drop Ezricare Artificial Tears in America . Amid growing controversy, the Indian pharmaceutical company has recalled this eye drop. This medicine is manufactured by Global Pharma of Chennai. It is alleged that 55 people in America have been infected and one person has died due to the use of eye drops. Earlier, cases of death of children in Gambia and Uzbekistan have also come to light from cough syrup made in India. But this time there is news of death due to eye drops.
In such a situation, it is important to know that how death can be caused by eye drops. How did the medicine made in India cause death in America? To know this, we talked to ophthalmologists and got a lot of information.
Why did death happen?
Dr. AK Grover , director of the Department of Ophthalmology at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi, said that this could happen because of the open bottle of eye drops . There will be a bottle open in the lot of medicines, in which harmful bacteria must have entered. In such a situation, this bacteria entered the body during the use of the medicine and it caused infection. Dr. Grover told that this type of bacteria can also cause sudden failure of any organ, due to which there is a risk of death. However, it also has to be seen that how many people have used the lot of the medicine and what problems they are facing. If someone is getting more infection, then such patients have to be kept under observation.
Overdose can be a reason
This type of eye drop is used to cure dysentery in the eyes, but it is available over the counter, so many times it is used unnecessarily and overdose can cause harm. There is also a risk of blindness from the wrong use of eye drops.
Eye specialist Dr. Vinay Kumar in Delhi says that many eye drops also contain some steroids, the use of which puts the eyes at risk of nerve damage. If they are used for a long time, then there is a risk of glaucoma, due to which the eyesight can also go away. In such a situation, any medicine should be used after consulting a doctor.
