Womens Premier League: WPL Will Start From March 4, All Matches Will Be Played In These Two Stadiums Of Mumbai

The first season of the Women's Premier League will be played from March 4 to 26. In an email to the five WPL franchises on Monday, the BCCI confirmed that the first season will be held entirely at two venues (Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium) in Mumbai. In an email, BCCI CEO Hemang Amin confirmed the player auction to be held on February 13 in Mumbai, reports ESPN. Amin said that 1,500 players have registered and the final list will be released later this week. A maximum of 90 players can be bought in the auction, with each team having 15 to 18 players.

World Cup Will End On February 26

The March 4 start of the WPL means that the tournament will begin eight days after the Women's T20 World Cup ends on February 26 in South Africa. To reduce the challenges for players and coaches traveling from South Africa to India, the BCCI decided to limit the first season to Mumbai. The auction is also to be held three days after the start of the Women's T20 World Cup from February 10.

BCCI Became Rich

Earlier, the auction was held for 5 teams of the Women's Premier League. Through this, BCCI earned 4666.99 crores. A total of 17 companies bid for these 5 teams, out of which 7 IPL franchises were also included. Out of these, 3 IPL franchises and 2 other companies were successful in buying the teams by placing the highest bids. According to the BCCI, Adani Sportsline acquired the rights of the Ahmedabad team by paying a price of Rs 1289 crore.
