Covid and pneumonia: More than three years have passed, but the corona virus is not ending. Whenever it is felt that this epidemic will go away, only then Kovid starts increasing again. Now the same thing is happening. After about eight months, more than four thousand new cases of corona have been registered in the country. The number of active patients has crossed 23 thousand. The matter of concern is that now every day the daily cases are increasing. The positivity rate is also increasing. The virus is becoming dangerous especially in Delhi, Maharashtra and Kerala.
Hospitalization due to Kovid is increasing in these three states. Complaints of pneumonia are also being seen in some patients due to the virus. According to doctors, pneumonia is an infection of the lungs, which can become fatal if left untreated. Even during the second wave of Kovid, most of the deaths were due to pneumonia. Now again this problem is being seen in some patients. There can be a danger in the elderly and people suffering from chronic disease.
Patients with bacterial pneumonia
Dr. Yudhveer Singh, professor in the Critical Care Department at AIIMS , says that the symptoms of Kovid are mild, but complaints of bacterial pneumonia are being seen in some patients. Now hospitalization due to Covid has started increasing a bit. Elderly and patients of other serious diseases are getting admitted in the hospital. Although there are no cases of decrease in oxygen level or infection in lungs, but according to which Kovid is increasing. Looking at that, now people should be alert. The virus is mutating and new variants are coming continuously. These variants are spreading fast. In such a situation, one should not be negligent regarding Kovid.
Can the death rate increase?
In response to this question, Dr. Singh says that even though hospitalization due to Covid is increasing, there is no possibility of increase in death rate. Till now there is no case of lack of oxygen in Kovid patients. In such a situation, there is no danger of increasing the death rate. The problem will be only for those people, who are already suffering from cancer, HIV, TB or liver and kidney disease. Such patients should take special care of their health at this time.
Is there a danger of a new wave coming?
Epidemiologist Dr. Jugal Kishore says that even though the cases are increasing, there is no such jump in them which is a cause for concern. At present, cases are increasing due to the new Omicron XBB.1.16 variant. This variant is infecting people with weak immunity. The virus is spreading from one person to another, due to which the cases are increasing, but the speed of increasing the cases is not such that it can cause a new wave. For the time being, some cases will increase for some time and soon the peak will come.
How to defend?
According to Dr. Jugal Kishore, all people will have to resume the use of masks. The mask will protect against the virus. Especially apply it at your office or while going out. If you have asthma, bronchitis or COPD, then the mask is the only protection. Apart from this, the elderly must also use it. This is because the spread of the virus is increasing at this time. The virus is spreading in the community. In such a situation, it can target high risk people.
