Class 11 NCERT Books: The syllabus of NCERT seems to be surrounded in controversy once again. Now the name of the country's first education minister has been removed from the Class 11th syllabus. The name of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India, has been removed from the Political Science notebook of class 11. The place where his work was mentioned in the old NCERT pattern book, that part is now missing in the new book.
According to media reports, Maulana Azad was mentioned in the first chapter of the old political science book of class 11 on NCERT pattern. In this, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad had an article about the constitution which has been removed.
Change on Jammu and Kashmir
According to media reports, some information related to Jammu and Kashmir and Article 370 has also been removed in the new NCERT book. Article 370 was abrogated by the central government in August 2019, ending the autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Who was Maulana Azad?
Every year on 11 November in India, the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is celebrated as National Education Day. It was started on 11 November 2008 in view of the contribution made as the first education minister of India. Maulana Azad is also known as the chief architect of education in independent India. Azad was the Education Minister of India from 15 August 1947 to 2 February 1958. As education minister, Azad emphasized on educating the rural poor and girls.
Azad played an important role in 1946, when he led the Congress in the elections to the new Constituent Assembly of India to draft the constitution. He also led a delegation to hold talks with the British Cabinet Mission in his sixth year as Congress President.
