For this, he plans to go to northern Sri Lanka via ferry service in the morning and return in the evening after a full day of business. Continuous work is being done to start short face service between Rameshwaram and Talai Mannar and Kankesanthurai. Highway and Port Minister EV Velu gave information about this on Saturday.
The State Maritime Board has sent the detailed project report of the project to the Central Government for approval of the ferry service. Earlier, the Central Government had given in-principle approval to this project. Its purpose was to have better bilateral relations with Sri Lanka. According to the Times of India report, the state government wants to start this service as soon as possible. For this, he is constantly in touch with the central government.
Rs 10-15 crore cost
According to the report, the cost of this project can be 10-15 crores. According to the information, the ferry service will have a seating capacity of 150 people. Talking about the time, it will take 1 hour to reach Talaimannar from Rameswaram and 2 hours to reach Kankesanthurai. The ferry can go between Rameshwaram and at a speed of 30 knots. According to the information, the Union Ministries of External Affairs and Ports, Shipping and Waterways have agreed for this project.
In connection with the ferry service, a big meeting was held last week in which officials of the Central Government, Tamil Nadu Government and Sri Lankan High Commission participated. The state government wants to complete this project within 6 months. However, there is only one hurdle in this, and that is the construction of the ghat. Apart from this, Sri Lankan officials, central and state government are all looking forward to this project.
