Lithuania: Russia's image has been affected due to the ongoing war with Ukraine. Countries around the world are distancing themselves from Russia. It is now reported that the European country of Lithuania has decided to ban Russian citizens from buying real estate here. Lithuania has taken this decision citing the risk to national security.
In fact, a tough decision regarding Russia was taken in the Parliament of Lithuania on Tuesday. It was agreed in the Parliament that Russian citizens should not get the right to buy property in the country. After this it was decided that Russian citizens would be banned from buying real estate in the Baltic countries. Risk to national security was cited behind this.
Prohibition on issuing new visas
The decision taken in the Parliament of Lithuania for Russian citizens will remain in force till 2024. However, the ban imposed by Lithuania will not apply to Russians who have been granted residency in the country. Not only this, the Parliament of Lithuania has also banned the issuance of new visas to the citizens of Russia and its ally Belarus.
Presenting the bill in parliament in March, Deputy Foreign Minister Jargita Neliupsyan said that a large number of Russian citizens support their country's aggressive military actions. Instead of stopping the country's aggressive military action, they promote it.
