From the country's largest telecom company Reliance Jio to Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea , now there is a war between everyone regarding 5G. All companies want to make an edge in the rapidly developing 5G segment in the country. Now all the companies have appealed to the government for help in this matter.
Companies say that to keep 5G technology accessible to the people, the government needs to reduce taxes. Companies have invested crores of dollars for its rapid spread in the country. 5G has not expanded so fast in any country of the world, while there is no clear outline regarding additional earnings in future from this new technology.
Request to make license fee 1%
The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) , an organization of telecom companies, says that the license fee should be brought down from 3 percent to 1 percent. Not only this, the 5 percent tax levied under the head 'Universal Service Obligation' should be postponed until the Rs 64,774 crore lying in this fund is utilised.
According to rating agency ICRA, the total debt of the telecom industry is expected to be around Rs 6.3 lakh crore in the financial year 2022-23. Director General of COAI S. P. Kochhar says that the country's telecom sector is under heavy debt burden. Despite this, India is the fastest 5G rollout country in the world.
