SIM KYC: The Department of Telecom (DoT) is planning to make some changes in the Know Your Customer (KYC) process to prevent fraud of fake SIM cards. According to the report, the new norms can reduce the number of SIM cards issued on one ID from nine at present to five and the KYC process can be completely digitalised. In such a situation, soon you will get a chance to take advantage of the online KYC service sitting at home.
Aadhaar Based e-KYC
According to a report in The Indian Express, talks are on to find out a strong KYC mechanism by making digital document verification mandatory to deal with cases of fake IDs. At present Aadhaar based e-KYC service is being used by Unique Identification Authority of India as an alternate process for release of mobile connections in which customer's demographic details along with photo from UIDAI will be automatically captured by the licensee in the customer application. Form (CAF) is generated in its system.
Self-KYC Process
- For this, the customer has to register on the service provider's app/website/portal using the alternate mobile number. Family number, mobile number of relatives or someone you know can also be used on this. After that an OTP will come on the given mobile number, then customer verification will be done.
- Demographic details obtained from DigiLocker/UIDAI by electronically verified PoI/PoA document or license only will be used.
- If Aadhaar is used for verification, you will be asked for a declaration or consent.
- All the fields received from UIDAI/DigiLocker can be automatically entered in the Customer Application Form (CAF) by the licensee. All other required fields in the CAF will be filled by the customer on the portal/app/website.
