Some pictures were given to these people involved in the research, who were asked to look at them for two seconds at a time. These people have given facial expressions of happiness, surprise and anger after seeing the pictures, according to the stipulated time.
According to previous research, men resort to smartphone messages instead of physically expressing all emotions such as anger and fear. But in new research, researchers from Milano-Bicocca University in Milan, Italy, have tried to find out, what is the meaning of the increasing use of emoticons. Actually, the pictures in emoticons are designed in such a way that a person can express his feelings.
According to a report in Daily Mail , researchers included 96 university students, both boys and girls, to find out about this. Some pictures were given to these people involved in the research, who were asked to look at them for two seconds at a time. These people have given facial expressions of happiness, surprise and anger after seeing the pictures, according to the stipulated time. Even after this, people were asked to repeat it using dozens of different emoticons.
What came out in the research?
The results, published in the journal Behavioral Science, showed that men were better at correctly judging emoticons than facial expressions, especially when it came to negative emotions such as anger, sadness and disgust. In their report, researchers said that men were found more inclined to express their feelings through messages in cyberspace. But while looking at pictures related to humans, women react in a strong way. Also, women tend to have more empathy.
Research shows that men understand emoji more easily than actual facial expressions. But of course women understand the expressions on someone's face very well.
Shocking emoji data
The World Emoji Day website states that every day there are over 700 million emoji used in Facebook posts and 900 million emoji sent without text on Facebook Messenger. This data is shocking in itself.
