The Supreme Court has quashed the proceedings under the National Security Act (NSA) in the revenue arrears case against Samajwadi Party leader Yusuf Malik in Uttar Pradesh. The court has reprimanded the UP government for this decision . Expressing surprise, the Supreme Court told the state government that imposing NSA in this way is tantamount to misuse. The court said that NSA should not be implemented in matters of political nature. The Supreme Court quashed the NSA imposed on the leader with this remark.
Explain that the petitioner was earlier granted bail in two separate FIRs, on the basis of which the police authority had applied for initiating proceedings against him under NSA.
Yusuf Malik had challenged in the Supreme Court
Let us tell you that NSA was imposed against SP leader Yusuf Malik for allegedly threatening the Additional Municipal Commissioner. After the NSA was imposed, Yusuf Malik challenged in the court and called all the allegations against him fabricated. The SP leader had said that he has been implicated in false cases. Only after this the matter reached the Supreme Court.
What was the whole matter, action was taken by the revenue department
In fact, Samajwadi Party leader Yusuf Malik had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the action taken against him. Malik had said in his petition that his relatives were fighting the house tax evasion case. The revenue department of the state government had informed about non-payment of house tax of Rs 5 lakh. After questioning, his relative's house was sealed. During the action, the officials of the Revenue Department had to face strong opposition from the family members of Yusuf Malik. There was a pregnant woman in the sealed house, after which Malik's family members broke the seal of the house.
After this, the revenue officials filed an FIR against Malik and imposed NSA. Now, in this matter, the Supreme Court has reprimanded the UP government and quashed the NSA action against Yusuf Malik and ordered to release Malik immediately.
