The Reserve Bank of India has announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes. All these notes will be withdrawn from circulation, but the notes will not be invalid. Two thousand note was issued by the Reserve Bank in 2016 when PM Modi had stopped the old notes of 500 and 1000 rupees to curb black money. After this, new 500 and 2000 rupee notes were issued.
In the beginning, this note was very much in circulation, but gradually it was going out of circulation. Due to this, it was also being speculated that this note is not being dumped somewhere. The special thing is that after 2019, the Reserve Bank had also stopped the printing of 2 thousand notes. Since then, speculations were being made that the government can stop 2 thousand notes.
How many notes of 2 thousand in the market
In the order issued by the Reserve Bank of India, time has been given till September 30 to change the note of 2 thousand rupees. However, so far no such figure has been clarified that how many 2 thousand notes are in circulation in the market. However, according to the information given by Union Minister Anurag Thakur in the Parliament, till March 2021, 249.9 crore 2 thousand notes were in circulation. From the point of view of statistics, this number was decreasing year by year.
According to the information given in Parliament by Anurag Thakur, in 2018, 336.2 crore notes of two thousand rupees were in circulation. In March 2019, this number was reduced to 330.1 crore notes and in 2020 this figure came down to 273.3 crore notes. If seen from this point of view, there is a possibility of 200 crore notes of Rs 2000 being in circulation in the market at present. If we see this figure according to rupees, then it will be more than 4 lakh crores.
How many 2 thousand notes were in circulation
If we talk about the 2 thousand note being in circulation out of the total currency, then this figure was also continuously decreasing. In 2018, the share of two thousand notes in the total currency was 3.3 percent. In 2019 it was 3 percent and in 2020 it increased to 2.4 percent. The special thing is that there was a continuous decline in this figure, since then the government had stopped printing Rs 2,000 notes. There was no new note issue of 2 thousand for 3 years.
RBI had printed only 370 crore notes of 2 thousand
For the first time in 2016, only 370 crore notes of 2 thousand rupees currency were printed, whereas if compared to 500 notes, it is very less, from 2016 to 2022, 6479 crore notes of 500 have been printed. Most of these notes were printed last year. Then about 1280 crore rupees notes were printed.
