The French government leaves no stone unturned to make the Cannes Film Festival lit up with lights and stars a success. This year also the government has banned all the protests to be held here. The government here is taking strict action to ensure that the festival, which runs from May 16 to 27, is not affected. The reason for this is that the pension scheme of President Emmanuel Macron which has been changed. The government wanted to increase the retirement age and the Constitutional Council of France also approved it.
According to the new rule, the retirement age has been increased from 62 to 64 years. President Emmanuel Macron has also approved this law. Only after this, demonstrations started across the country. The government is trying its best that these demonstrations do not affect the film festival.
When the Cannes Film Festival had to be canceled
This is not the first time that the impact of the protest on the event is being feared. Last year also similar situation was created in France, but the situation worsened the most in 1968. The situation had become such that the film festival had to be canceled due to protests.
Now let's understand its story too. The date of May 10, 1968 was chosen for the festival. The preparations started in full swing. Cannes was starting to light up with the celebrity that suddenly there was a need to stop it. This was the period when student demonstrations were going on in the streets of France. The employee went on strike. 30 lakh laborers were on the streets. The whole country was closed.
On May 13, the French Critics Association came in favor of the students and issued a statement announcing the cancellation of the festival. The students' demonstration was against the non-violent police and they accused the police system of destroying the freedom of the country. The police had taken strict action against the students regarding many cases.
Demonstration took place last year also, see tweet

Lessons from the past
Taking lessons from 1968 and previous demonstrations, the government has issued an order that demonstrations cannot be held during the entire festival. The decision to ban the protests has been taken because the police force currently available in France is not sufficient to stop the protesters. Already their deployment has been done in different parts of the event.
Despite the guidelines of the government, many types of demonstrations are going on in Cannes. According to media reports, on Friday, May 19, a huge crowd of protesters gathered outside the hotel in Cannes from where A-lister celebrities walk the red carpet. In such a situation, the police administration here had a lot of difficulty in dealing with it.
Hollywood Reporter's report said, people have the right to perform. They can freely put their voice in front. It should not be kept away from glamour.
