After waiting for a decade, a mega defense deal is going to happen between India and America. This deal will also give new wings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream of 'self-reliant India'. After this deal, first the engines of fighter planes i.e. jet planes will start being made in India. At the same time, going forward, the way for the preparation of engines for big water vessels will also open in the country itself.
In this mega defense deal, the Government of India's 'Hindustan Aeronautics Limited' (HAL) is going to enter into a partnership deal with General Electric (GE) of America. After this deal, both the companies will manufacture indigenous fighter jet engines domestically.
There may be a big announcement on Modi's US tour
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit America next month. According to sources, a big announcement can be made on this proposed defense deal during this visit of PM Modi. After a long time, such a big defense deal is going to happen between the two countries. This is one of the most permanent defense deals between the two countries.
Initially, both the companies will make fighter plane engines in partnership. Whereas in future the engines of Indian Navy ships can also become a part of this partnership.
US Defense Minister to reach India next week
The key points of this deal to be held between the two countries will be discussed next week, because then US Defense Minister Lloyd James Austin will be on a visit to India. Sources say that an MoU is to be signed between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and General Electric and both the companies are very close to finalizing its terms.
After this, the US government will inform the US Congress about this deal. There will be a time limit of 30 days for this. The US Congress is not expected to have any problem regarding this deal.
Technology will be transferred with India
The special thing about the talks going on for this deal is that India is insisting on transfer of technology for making jet engines with America. In this regard, talks have also taken place between India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and his American counterpart Jack Sullivan in February.
