The Salt Movement was started by Mahatma Gandhi on 12 March 1930 from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. The British government had done the work of taxing things like cloth, tea as well as salt.
Narendra Modi has played an important role in the Kheedu movement run for the farmers . This movement started in the year 1984 under the leadership of RSS Pracharak Dattopant Thengdi, which Narendra Modi was able to make successful in Gujarat through successful strategy. In fact, Modi's strategy was to present the Kheedu movement by making it similar to Gandhi's salt tax movement. Through this strategy, Narendra Modi wanted to free the farmers from the complex laws and corruption created by the officers. At the same time, by solving the problems of the farmers, Modi was trying to remove the stain on the hem of the RSS, which was on the RSS after the assassination of Gandhi.
The Khidu movement was a movement launched for the farmers, which was very much discussed in the year 1984 in Gujarat. Ingredients like cumin and turmeric could not be sold by the border farmers of Gujarat and Rajasthan without government permission. Unjha in North Gujarat is very close to Jalore in Rajasthan, but the farmers of both the places could not sell their goods in other states because of the law made by the officers.
The farmers were being humiliated by the corruption prevailing in the bureaucracy and their anger was at its peak. The central and state governments were not ready to listen to the anger of the farmers. In fact, due to this attitude of the government, the distressed farmers started gathering under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh. Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, the branch of RSS, started making a strategy for fighting on the road by raising this issue vigorously. Its head was Dattopant Thengdi and Narendra Modi in Gujarat and Om Mathur in Rajasthan were entrusted with the responsibility of taking it forward.
How farmers joined BKS in Kheedu movement
In the year 1983-1984, the farmers union together encouraged the farmers of both the states to sell their produce in each other's state. Through this movement, farmers were asked to break the law in the same way as Mahatma Gandhi tried to make salt by breaking the law.
In fact, the Salt Movement was started by Mahatma Gandhi on 12 March 1930 from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. The British government had done the work of taxing things like cloth, tea as well as salt. Indian citizens did not have the right to make salt and were forced to pay many times more money on the salt coming from Britain.
Mahatma Gandhi started a Satyagraha for the removal of salt tax by running a movement against this. Why was the method and date of the movement linked to Gandhi? On October 2, 1984, a big rally of farmers in Ahmedabad was called in Ahmedabad on Gandhi's birthday. More than one lakh farmers had participated in this rally. Bharatiya Kisan Sangh was successful in connecting the farmers of the villages through this rally. Narendra Modi was deciding the strategy to make the Khidu movement successful in Gujarat.
Kheedu movement in form of salt law
Seeing the huge crowd of farmers in Ahmedabad, the police clashed with the farmers, in which some farmers lost their lives due to police firing. It is obvious that this movement was successful in spreading like fire in the entire state. The common people of the state started coming forward to collect donations to help the farmers and this money could be distributed among the farmers. The Sangh Parivar was succeeding in expanding its foothold in rural Gujarat through the Kheedu movement. The acceptance of the Sangh in the society had also started increasing now.
In 'The Architect of New BJP', it has been written about Narendra Modi that an attempt was made to wash away the stain on the RSS by giving the form of salt law to the Kheedu movement. Through this movement, the RSS, which was confined to some parts of the state, was able to reach every village.
