Jodha got the most fame among Akbar 's wives, but there was also a wife of the Mughal emperor whom he loved immensely. That wife was Salima Sultan . How much Akbar loved her can be gauged from the fact that he married Salima Begum while being the first Begum Ruqaiya. There was also a reason for marrying Salima.
Salima Begum belonged to the Timurid dynasty. Born on 23 February 1539, Salima was the daughter of Nooruddin. This was the same dynasty whose connection was with the Mughals. Many historians believe that Salima was Akbar's cousin and she was several years older than the emperor.
That decision of Humayun and silence in the Sultanate
According to the report of Bharat Discovery, Humayun had ordered his niece Salima Sultan to get married to his most honest general Bairam Khan. Due to this decision of Humayun, there was silence in the entire Sultanate. Many Mughal Sardars and Begums of the Sultanate were upset.
The people of the Mughal Sultanate believed that it was right to get Princess Salima, who belonged to the Timur dynasty, married to a Turkic government. Salima got married to Bairam Khan. Then Humayun died and after a few years Akbar took over the Mughal Sultanate. A day also came when Bairam Khan died. After the death of Bairam, Salima started living in the harem of the Mughals.
Salima's nature and thinking attracted Akbar. After seeing Salima's condition in Haram, Akbar married her. Some historians say that he helped Akbar in taking many decisions and inspired him to move away from the path of the Mughals.
That's why Akbar had married
There was a special reason why Akbar married Salima. It has been claimed in many reports, Akbar did not have any children from his first wife Ruqaiya. For many years, he remained bereft of the happiness of having children. After this he came in contact with Salima. Being a widow at a young age, Akbar decided to marry her and she became Akbar's favorite wife. Akbar loved her so much that he gave her the title of Khadija. However, after marrying Salima, Akbar fell in love with Jodha.
It is said that whenever Akbar got entangled in any matter and could not understand its solution, he used to consult Salima Sultan. Salima died on 15 December 1612. His tomb was built in Agra, however, it is not exactly clear whether his tomb was built by Akbar or Jahangir.
