Rakesh's grandfather did not allow his father to go abroad and encouraged him to do business. After this his father came to Sonepat and started a business of manufacturing auto rubber parts in partnership with a friend in the year 1963.
When did you start making car seat covers?
Chowdhary Enterprises was manufacturing auto rubber parts till the year 1980. Rakesh Chhabra told that he joined the company in the year 1980. After this, in the year 1982, taking big decisions, the company started selling Carmats.
The next year, in 1983, the company added carpets to its portfolio. And the dealers suggested selling them car seat covers. From the year 1984, Chowdhary Enterprises also started this work. After this, its manufacturing was started in the year 1987.
When did you start selling under the brand name Autochem?
Till 1995, Chowdhary Enterprises was selling car accessories without any brand name. , In the year 1995, the company started selling them with the Autochem brand name. The company launched the country's first seat cover catalog in the year 1996. The company's business spread widely in the rest of the country except North India. In the year 2002, the company brought out products with a warranty of 3 years.
Because of this the company got a lot of orders. By the year 2007, the car seat market had completely changed as different types of seats started coming for each vehicle. At that time, Chowdhary Enterprises was one of the few companies, which was providing seat covers according to the seat fitting of every model of every car. Till 2012, his company made a lot of progress.
How the company associated with car companies
Chowdhary Enterprises started working with General Motors for the first time in the year 2007 in the case of Original Equipment Manufacturer. After 5 years in 2012, the company associated with Maruti as an OE vendor. In the next one year, Maruti sold more than 35,000 seat covers. After this the company worked closely with Hyundai, Mahindra.
From the year 2016, the company is also associated with Godrej as now the company also manufactures some parts of mattresses. From the year 2020, Chowdhary Enterprises has also started manufacturing some parts of chairs. From the year 2021, the company also started exporting to America and Japan. At present, the turnover of the company is more than Rs 1 billion.
