Balaji Wafers Success Story: Balaji Wafers is one of the leading company in the country making potato chips and snacks. In terms of potato wafers, it is the second largest company in the country. Know how its journey started.

How a small decision can change the fate, it can be understood from the success of Balaji Wafers . The journey of the company that started with just Rs 10,000 has reached the revenue of Rs 4,000 crore. Balaji Wafers is one of the leading company in the country for making potato chips and snacks . In terms of potato wafers, it is the second largest company in the country.

Chandubhai Virani, the founder of Balaji Wafers, decided to start the business of chips in 1982. With only one thousand rupees, he started it under the tin shed of the house. Chandubhai's father was a farmer by profession. He gave 20 thousand rupees to his 3 sons to start the business. Asked to distribute it among 3 brothers.

One brother used his share of money to buy equipment and fertilizers related to farming. But due to drought, the farming got ruined. All three brothers were looking for employment. After about a year, Chandubhai got a job in the theater canteen.

Life changed like this

After working in the canteen for about a year, when the income increased, in 1982 the family shifted to Rajkot. The brothers started the business of Masala Sandwiches in the family, but these were such products that could not be stored for a long time, so Chandubhai's eyes fell on wafers. The same idea came to his mind that why not start the business of potato chips and wafers as they are not easily perishable.

After finishing the canteen job, he started making chips at home. He started supplying the chips to 25 to 30 vendors. In 1984, the business of chips was named Balaji.

Chandubhai continued his efforts and did not compromise on quality. In 1989, he set up a factory in Rajkot and expanded his business by taking a loan of Rs 50,000. In 1992, the three brothers decided to work together. In this way the name of Balaji was changed to Balaji Wafers Private Limited.

Compete with competitors

Balaji Wafers had a direct competition with brands like Uncle Chips, Simba and Binny's, but they gave competition to the competitors by maintaining the quality and price of the product.

Balaji had 4 factories in the country, in which 65 lakh crore potato wafers, 1 crore kg salty are prepared daily. The third factory was started in Valsad, Gujarat in 2008. Here 9 thousand kg potato chips are prepared every hour. It is the largest company in Asia producing the maximum number of potato chips.

To increase the business, the company launched many new products in the market, which were very much liked. These included Chaat Chaska, Crunchex Chilli Tadka, Wafers Tomato Twist, Rumbles Pudina Twist. Leaving aside wafers, only Namkeen has more than 23 brands.
