Diabetes patients have more risk of heart diseases, research claims

Heart Disease: According to health experts, there is a risk of heart diseases due to diabetes. High blood pressure and high cholesterol increase the chances of heart attack or stroke manifold.

Diabetes Cause Heart Disease: A new study published in an open access peer-reviewed Journal of the American Heart Association has found that people facing type 2 diabetes may develop heart disease. According to research, 1 out of every 3 diabetic patients is at risk of heart disease. The research findings further strengthen the claims of diabetes and cardiovascular risk.

According to the research, a third (33.4 per cent) of adults with type 2 diabetes had symptoms of undetected heart disease, compared to 16.1 per cent of those without diabetes.

What came out in the research?

People with type 2 diabetes had a 54 per cent higher risk of death from heart disease and a 77 per cent higher risk of other deaths due to higher levels of troponin and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide. Let us tell you that type 2 diabetes can have a direct effect on the heart, which is not related to cholesterol levels. If type 2 diabetes is directly causing damage to the small vessels in the heart, that is not related to cholesterol plaque buildup.

Elizabeth Selvin, a professor of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore and one of the researchers, said that cholesterol-lowering drugs do not prevent heart problems.

How high is the risk of heart disease?

According to health experts, there is a risk of heart diseases due to diabetes. In fact, people with diabetes are also more likely to have other risk factors, which promote heart diseases. Explain that high blood pressure and high cholesterol increase the chances of heart attack or stroke manifold. High blood glucose from diabetes puts you at risk of blood vessel and nerve damage.

Over time this damage can lead to heart disease. Due to this, the viscosity of the blood increases and there are obstructions in the coronary arteries, due to which the blood does not reach the heart.
