Eye drops uses: There is an allegation of infection in the eyes of people in Sri Lanka due to the use of eye drops made in India. The risk of bacterial infection has been reported with the use of the drug.

Indian eye drop: A case of eye infection has come to the notice of 35 people in Sri Lanka due to eye drop made in India . Sri Lanka has alleged that the use of medicine made in India has caused infection in the eyes of people here. After this incident, samples of eye drops are now being tested. This medicine is made by a pharma company in Gujarat. During March this year also, a batch of eye drops was sent to Sri Lanka, but patients admitted in hospitals there got infected. After which Sri Lanka had banned the medicine. Now again such a case has come to the fore.

According to a Health Ministry official, the batch of medicine that went to Sri Lanka has been sealed. Now the sample is being examined, the report of which can come in the next 2 weeks. If any deficiency is found in the medicine, then action will be taken against the company. In February this year, another eye drop, Azricare Artificial Tears, was banned in the US. 55 people got infected due to the use of this medicine and one died. America had called them dangerous for health. During that time the American FDA had also issued an alert regarding eye drops.

This eye drop is widely used in India

The use of methyl prednisolone eye drop medicine has been banned in Sri Lanka. It is widely used in India as well. There is a business of several crores of medicine. This eye drop is used to prevent any infection, irritation and allergy in the eyes. However, no case of any side effect has been reported from the use of this medicine in India.

Although doctors say that overdose of any medicine or eye drop causes such side effects. In many cases, people bring medicines from medical stores without the advice of doctors and start using them. Overuse of medicines without medical advice can cause harm.

Why did the infection happen?

Dr AK Grover, in the eye department at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi, says that in some batch of eye drops, a bottle might have been left open, due to which dangerous bacteria might have gone into it. This has happened before as well. That's why at the moment it has to be seen whether there is any defect in any one batch or lot or there is some problem in all the samples. At present it is a matter of investigation. Now it is important that the patients who have got infection should be kept under observation.

These medicines are used in India

Dr. Vijay Jain, MD and senior physician in Delhi, says that these eye drops are widely used in India. They have a business worth crores of rupees, but here no case of infection has been reported from them in any patient. In such a situation, it cannot be said that this eye drop is bad for the eyes. In the cases that have happened in Sri Lanka, there could be a defect in one of the eye drop samples. At present, it will be clear only after the examination of the medicine that there was no overuse of eye drops.
