There will be three matches in Ahmedabad
There are still about 100 days left for the ICC Cricket World Cup to begin, but hotels in Ahmedabad have started scoring even before the first ball was bowled. According to industry sources, even after booking three-and-a-half months in advance, the rent for a base category room in a five-star hotel in the city has reached up to Rs 50,000 in a special case. Whereas in the rest of the time the cost of such rooms will be Rs 6,500-10,500. The ICC Cricket World Cup tournament will be held in India from October 5 to November 19, with the opening match, the final and the India-Pakistan match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Booking already done for India-Pak match
ITC Narmada General Manager Keenan McKenzie said that there is a lot of excitement about the match between India and Pakistan to be held on October 15. Bookings for October 13 to 16 have already been done and hotel rooms in the city are expected to be booked on most match days. McKenzie said, inquiries are coming continuously from International Cricket Groups, Fans and Sponsors.
60-90 percent room booked
GM of Hyatt Regency, Ahmedabad, Punit Baijal said that most of the five star hotels have 60-90 per cent rooms booked for match days. He said that almost 80 per cent (rooms) have been sold for the match days. For the opening ceremony and the first match between England and New Zealand, bookings have already been made through travel agencies for England and major corporations.
Rooms booked from Rs 52,000 to Rs 1 lakh
According to industry sources, the base category rooms are being booked for around 500 pounds or around Rs 52,000 and the premium category rooms are being booked for 1,000 pounds i.e. Rs 1 lakh. Atul Budhraja, Vice President (Operations) of Sankalp Group, which operates the assets of Taj Group here, said that we have already booked two of their assets for October 14-16. At least 40-60 per cent of our inventory is booked.
