Explaining India's role as the 'pharmacy of the world', Mandaviya said that other countries look to India for the supply of medicines, even if it costs extra. Today, the world looks up to India, even if it (drug supplies) becomes expensive. This is because they know that India stands with them in times of crisis. It is because of our commitment that the world is praising India and the credit goes to the Covid management.

Ban on export of key drugs?

Responding to the ban on export of key drugs during the pandemic before later withdrawing it, the minister said that initially we had imposed the ban as we were analyzing our requirements, manufacturing capacity, raw material status available to us. Were. When we found that we have enough raw material and other things, we removed the export ban.

PM's role during the pandemic

He said that when we started exporting, criticism started that we were sending medicines abroad and there would be a shortage in the country. Recalling the PM's role during the pandemic, Mandaviya said that a few days after the 21-day lockdown was announced in March 2020, the PM asked him about the status of Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin drugs in the country.

Manufacturing of medicines started

Sharing details about the central government's handling of essential medical drugs like hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, Mandaviya informed that they held meetings with pharmaceutical companies, directed them to start manufacturing and provided lockdown passes for their employees.

Delivered essential medicines to 150 countries

He also informed that four to five international flights operated during the Kovid-19 period to transport essential medicines from India to 150 countries. The minister said that health is not a business for us. This is a service. When we supplied medicines to 150 countries, we could have increased the price if we wanted. But we didn't do that. We supplied the medicines at the last cost. On the issue of supply of Kovid-19 vaccine to the world, he said that India has started 'Vaccine Maitri' program to ensure supply of vaccines worldwide and help countries in the fight against the pandemic.
