Mughal History: Did Meher's father betray the Mughal Sultanate by giving Salim the throne?

It is said that in the last days of Akbar, Gyasbeg was the most trusted person who was with him. Akbar was not in a condition to speak, so he called Gayasbeg to him and gave Humayun's sword to him and also told the name of the heir.

In the Mughal Sultanate, there was a lot of struggle for the throne, massacre among the princes, rebellion against the emperor, all these were common. A similar rebellion took place during the time of Akbar as well. The hero of that rebellion was Prince Salim , the same Salim whom the date knows by the name of Jahangir . Some historians consider Anarkali to be the reason for this rebellion, while some consider his longing for the throne. Although Akbar never wanted Salim to sit on the throne after him.

Akbar himself was preparing Salim's eldest son Khusro as his successor, but in due course Salim was declared emperor. It is said in history that when the emperor was ill, he had given this decision. Then how did it happen that Akbar chose Salim as his successor. Some historians consider it a conspiracy of Gayasbeg.

Akbar did not want to give the throne to Salim

Salim was the eldest son of Akbar. It is said that Akbar loved Salim very much, but because of his bad habits and being immersed in alcohol and women, he started hating him in his last days. Salim revolted and increased it further. According to the book History of Mughal India, Akbar always wanted Khusrau to take over his succession, but later he was upset due to his aggression. That is why instead of Khusro, he had decided to give his throne to a third person.

So did Gayasbeg betray Akbar?

In 1605, Akbar became very ill. It is said that by that time Salim had rebelled and declared himself the emperor in Allahabad. According to the book History of Mughal India, Salim came to Akbar at the last moment and bowed his head at his feet. After this, Akbar forgave Salim and also forgave his crimes. According to historians, this was the time when Salim was handed over the succession of Akbar. However, in the recently aired webseries 'Taj: Divided by Blood' on the Mughal Sultanate, it has been described as a conspiracy by Gayasbeg.

What did Gyasbeg do?

It is said that in the last days of Akbar, Gyasbeg was the most trusted person who was with him. Akbar was not in a condition to speak, so he called Gayasbeg to him and gave Humayun's sword to him. The Mughal emperor used to hand over Humayun's sword to his successor as his legacy. According to Taj Divided Y Blood, Akbar had asked Ghiyasbeg to hand it over to Khurram i.e. Shah Jahan as his successor, but Ghiyasbeg hatched a conspiracy and handed over the throne to Salim.

Who was Ghiyas Beg

Gayasbeg was a close friend of Akbar and the father of Mehrunnisa, the same Mehrunnisa whom Salim was deeply in love with. Mehrunnisa was given the title of Nurjahan by Salim. During the reign of Akbar, Ghiyasbeg had a simple position, according to the book History of Mughal India, Mirza Ghiyasbeg was promoted after Salim became the emperor, he was honored with the title of Itmad-ud-daulah.
