Can new Rs 500 notes worth Rs 88,000 crore go 'missing' in the country, without the government or the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) getting a clue? In fact, there were reports in the media that the amount of new ₹ 500 notes printed by the government press was not received by the bank, that is, notes worth about ₹ 88,000 crore went 'missing' in between. Denying this news, RBI has now solved the mystery of this whole matter.
Based on the information received from the Right to Information (RTI) in the media reports, it was said that the new notes of ₹ 500 were 'missing'. It was said in the RTI that the government note press printed 881.06 crore new notes, but only 726 crore notes reached the RBI. Now RBI has given clarification in this matter.
'The information was misinterpreted'
RBI has denied the media reports on this whole issue. The central bank says that the information given in the RTI was not understood in the right context. This report is not correct. The information that has been sought from the government press in RTI only tells about how many notes were printed.
The interpretation of the information sought under the Right to Information Act-2005 has not been done correctly. Apart from this, there is a strong system of supply of notes from press to RBI. Every note received by the bank from the press is accounted for. In this, not only the printing of notes, but the information about their storage and distribution is also kept firm. RBI itself shares its information from time to time. Common people should trust this.

Banned ₹ 2000 notes
Before this news, RBI has recently announced to close 2000 rupee notes as well. The last date for depositing these notes in banks is 30 September. These 2000 rupee notes were also introduced in the year 2016 at the same time when new 500 rupee notes were introduced in the country.
