In Tamil Nadu BJP Secretary SG Surya has been arrested in Madurai. Madurai Cyber Crime Police has arrested Surya. Surya had made a tweet about Madurai MP SU Venkatesan, about which Venkatesan had complained to the police. Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has said that this arrest is the result of BJP's fight against corruption, which cannot be stopped in any way. His fight against corruption is going to continue even further.

Surya has been sent to judicial custody for 15 days.

CPI(M) termed the BJP leader's statement as baseless
Sections 153 (A), 505 (1) (B), 505 (1) (C) of IPC have been imposed against Surya. Apart from this, 66 (d) has been arrested under the IT Act. The CPI (M) tweeted the claims made by Surya as baseless. They say that there is no Penadam Nagar Panchayat in Madurai or there is no corporator named Vishwanathan, which Surya has mentioned in his tweet. He claims that this is a completely fabricated statement.
