Tomato Price Hike: The price of ginger and tomato increased at the speed of rocket, the price doubled in 15 days

Due to damage to the crop due to rain, the supply of tomatoes has reduced in Azadpur mandi (in Delhi). The prices will remain stable for some time till the new crop arrives.

Tomato has once again started showing its Rudra form. In the last fortnight, the prices of tomato and ginger have increased like a rocket. The recent unseasonal rains have affected the tomato crop in North India, while ginger farmers, on the other hand, are stopping their harvest and raising prices to make up for last year's losses.

Meanwhile, the price of watermelon seeds has increased three times. Actually it is imported from Sudan and there is a military conflict going on there. Due to which the supply is very less. Sanjay Sharma, a Delhi-based trader, says that a kilo of watermelon seeds now costs Rs 900, which was only Rs 300 before the Sudan conflict.

Tomato prices doubled

In the retail market, tomato prices have increased from Rs 40 a fortnight ago to around Rs 80 per kg. According to Ashok Kaushik, president of the Tomato Traders Association in Azadpur Market, the supply of tomatoes has reduced in Azadpur Mandi (in Delhi) due to damage to the crop due to rain. The prices will remain stable for some time till the new crop arrives. Kaushik said that there is a huge demand for tomatoes from southern India, due to which the prices are increasing. He said that tomatoes are now coming from parts of Haryana and UP. Prices are likely to remain stable for at least two months.

Ginger price hiked

The price of ginger, which was Rs 30 per 100 grams, has now increased to Rs 40. Shriram Gadhve, president of the All India Vegetable Growers Association, says that last year the farmers had to bear the loss due to low prices. This time they are carefully harvesting the crop in the market. Now that the prices have gone up, they will start selling their crops. India's annual ginger production is about 2.12 million metric tonnes.
