Administration work: The important work of the collector is that he works to maintain law and order in the district and the steps taken for this are done on the permission of the collector. Also, the Collector has the same powers as the First Class Magistrate. 

Role in development work: The collector also directs the development plan to be held in the district. Whenever any development work is done or any scheme comes, the collector does the work of giving important permissions on it. 

Responsibility of Public Security: Law, order, public security is taken care of by the collector. Only the collector works to maintain peace in the district and if needed, the decision of curfew etc. is also taken by the collector. 

Revenue work: The collector is the head of the revenue administration and is responsible for collecting land revenue and government dues. Apart from this, major decisions related to revenue are also taken by the collector.

District Planning: District planning is done by the Collector, as he is the head of the District Planning Council and makes plans for 5 years. 

Disaster Management-  Whenever any natural calamity like flood, earthquake occurs in the district, in that situation the collector is responsible for all the relief work. He is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Committee and he ensures that relief reaches every person. 

Responsibility of protocol: Whenever there is a visit of a high personality sitting on a constitutional post in the district, the collector is responsible for its security and protocol. If there is a rally of any leader, then that too is conducted after the permission of the collector, in whom the responsibility of his security lies. Along with this, the work of the collector is done from permission to his responsibility in the big events to be held in the city.
