Where was the third meeting of the G-20 Employment Working Group held? What were the decisions?

This meeting was organized outside the country in Geneva, Switzerland because of the International Labor Conference.

In this meeting being chaired by India, major areas have been identified for the Employment Working Group, which can be recommended to work on. It is recognized that there is still a skill gap in the global workforce, which will have to be worked together to meet and increase employability.

More work has to be done on the social security of the workforce associated with the gig economy. Right now the social security in this emerging sector is almost nil. The workforce associated with the gig economy is one who works independently through digital platforms, apps. There has been talk of giving such a security structure to the workers associated with the gig economy, which is a bit permanent. Since several crore youth have been added to this workforce in the last three years in a country like India, it cannot be taken lightly.

Where did the meeting take place?

This was the third meeting of the Employment Working Group. Earlier the first meeting was held in Jodhpur, Rajasthan in February, 2023. The second meeting was held in Guwahati, Assam in April. The fourth and final meeting is to be held in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh in July.

The Employment Working Group is a forum within the G-20 framework that addresses social issues related to workers. In these meetings, member countries share experiences with each other. Creates a platform for the G20 member states and international organizations to formulate policies on employment-related issues.

The objective of this group is to try to increase employment opportunities, understand the problems of workers, ensure their social security while working on their solutions, and speed up economic development.
