Ukraine's Kakhovka Dam on the Dnipro River broke after an explosion on June 6, 2023 amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. This created a flood crisis. The lives of about 40 thousand people of both the countries have come under threat. For this both the countries have blamed each other.
This dam was built in the year 1956 during the Soviet Union era. The purpose of this important project was irrigation, power generation and water transport. The height of the dam is 30 meters. It was made in length of more than three kilometers. Crimea was supplied with water from this dam. This is the area that Russia had snatched from Ukraine in 2014.

The dam also supplied water to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is also currently under Russian control. Russia-Ukraine have been fighting continuously since 2014 in this area. The army of both the countries are face to face.
With the explosion, the dam broke. The bottomless water stream flowed towards the low-lying areas. There was heavy damage to villages, towns, roads, buildings, animals and crops. Large scale power supply was disrupted. Crimea's water supply stopped. The nuclear power plant also got stalled due to lack of water. The water level of Niprovska Bay of the Black Sea in Kherson city has also increased suddenly.
This is creating a different kind of danger. The environment has also suffered due to this sudden situation. The loss of this development is currently being borne by both the countries. About 22 thousand people are in trouble in the areas under the control of Russia and about 16-18 thousand in Ukraine. Both the countries are trying to help the citizens.
