Dr Smriti Naswa Singh Mulund, consultant dermatologist and cosmetic dermatologist at Fortis Hospital, said that the average nail growth rate is 3 mm per month for fingers and 1.62 mm per month for toes. Explaining the possible reasons for this, Dr. Singh said that generally hand nails grow more than toe nails. 

We use hand nails more than feet, so its growth is more. That's why it is important to take care of nails. Nails do not break with proper care. That's why nails should be cleaned from time to time. So that dirt and bacteria cannot sit in it. And it can be saved from all kinds of infections.

It takes at least 6 months for the nails of the hands and feet to grow completely (new nails).
