Metropolitan police officer's fun at sea before marriage, preparations begin to go to jail

UK Court Verdict: The accused was arrested on July 28 last year. He was also suspended from the police department. After being convicted, he has not been sentenced yet. The date of sentencing is expected to be fixed soon.

UK Crime: 34-year-old Metropolitan Police Officer (Met Police Officer) Sergeant Lawrence Knight may have been acquitted of rape charges by the court, but he has already been proven guilty of sexually assaulting a woman. This decision was given by the Southwark Crown Court on Thursday. The incident was carried out by the Met Police officer at the Brighton Stag Doe when only two weeks were left for his wedding. The incident took place at sea. The girl for whom this officer has been accused of sexual harassment was a stranger girl. The incident was carried out when the strict restrictions of the Kovid era were in force.

However, on the other hand, Met police officer Sergeant Lawrence Knight, who has been convicted, has refused to accept the allegations. Along with this, there is the complaint of the Mate police officer who has been convicted, in which case he is being accused of sexual harassment. In that incident, the woman had established physical relations with him with consent. Rejecting this argument of the accused police, but during the 7-hour trial, the jury by a majority of 10:2 convicted the accused of sexual assault.

Police officer went to drink alcohol on the beach

The incident took place in July 2021 at a nightclub in Leyton, east London, when the accused police officer had a fun evening with friends at the Airbnb, being entertained by strippers, to celebrate his stag do. Later, the accused police officer Knight and his stag group went for a drink with the 21-year-old woman on Brighton Beach after meeting her in the city. During that time, strict restrictions of the Kovid period were in force in the country, due to which the 'bars' of the country were also closed.

Even during a pandemic like Kovid, Knight (accused Met Police Officer) when he was posted at Stoke Newlington Police Station in North London. The girl was persuaded to take him to the sea by saying that he (a police officer now convicted of sexual assault) was going to spend a wild night at sea. During the hearing in the court, the prosecution lawyer Maryam Syed argued that, "Police Officer Knight, accused of sexual harassment, had also taken illegal advantage of the woman being drunk at the time of the incident."

Emotional blackmail was done to the victim

According to the prosecution, “The accused police officer Knight, after emotionally blackmailing the victim, took her to the sea for fun. While the woman continued to refuse to go with him, when the accused started crying, the woman was forced to accompany him to the sea. Since the girl did not want to wet her dress in sea water. That's why she took off the rest of the clothes from the body and separated them beforehand and wearing only bra-panty, succumbed to his insistence to keep her mind with the accused, went into the sea.

According to the arguments presented by the prosecution in the court, “When the accused police officer, who was in an inebriated state of alcohol, started molesting the woman (victim) in the sea, she (victim) tried to stop him by saying that In fact, two weeks later he (Mate Police Officer Knight, who has now been convicted of sexual assault) is about to get married. He should not tamper. But the accused did not listen to the victim.

Sexual harassment was not intended!

During the hearing of the case in the court, the accused said that the allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him are false. Because sexual violence on him was first started by the girl herself. By touching the delicate (private) parts of her body with her hand. The court asked the accused that if he had no intention of sexually assaulting the girl, then why did he take the girl into the sea without her consent? In response to this question, the accused police officer argued that he was under the influence of alcohol and just wanted to give himself peace of mind by staying with the girl. Not that the girl had any intention of sexually assaulting or raping her.
