According to Bimal Kothari, chairman of the India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA), the model price of gram (Bengal gram) in Indore on June 30 was Rs 4,785 per quintal. But by the time of August, a bumper jump was registered in its price.
With the arrival of monsoon, inflation has not only hit onion, tomato, rice, wheat and green vegetables, but has also affected the prices of pulses. Although the rate of pulses was already high before the onset of rains, but the rains further fueled its price. Due to this pulses have disappeared from the plate of poor Adni. The condition of retail inflation is that after Arhar and Urad, now Chana Dal has also become expensive.
It is being said that the maximum increase in its price was recorded in July. This is the reason why like Arhar and Urad, Chana Dal has also become costlier by about 20 percent. However, pulses traders say that this increase in the price of gram is normal according to the season. Every year after the arrival of monsoon, there is a slight increase in the prices of food items. But after the arrival of the new crop, the prices become normal again. A gram trader said that this time a record production of 135.43 lakh tonnes of gram has been estimated in the country. In such a situation, after the arrival of new crop, the prices may come down.
The minimum support price was below Rs 5,335 per quintal
Till last June, the minimum support price of gram in the mandis was below Rs 5,335 per quintal. But now the price of gram has reached around the minimum support price in many mandis. On the other hand, if we talk about Chana Dal, its price has also increased by more than 10 percent during the last one month. Last month, on July 21, chana dal was being sold in Delhi at Rs.72 per kg. But now its price has increased by Rs.8. That is, now the price of one kg of gram dal in Delhi has become Rs.80.
The model price of gram was recorded at Rs 5,595 per quintal.
On August 4, the model price of gram jumped to Rs 7,765 per quintal. However, by August 17, the price of the model saw a drop with the same speed. On August 17, the model price of gram was recorded at Rs 5,595 per quintal. Traders say that there is a huge shortage of tur and urad in the country right now. This is affecting other pulses as well. Due to this the prices are increasing.
23.5 lakh tonnes of gram was purchased
According to Bimal Kothari, despite the forecast of record production, an increase in the prices of gram has been registered at the rate of Rs.6 to Rs.7 per kg in the recent past. Similarly, the price of lentils has increased by Rs. 3 per kg. He said that NAFED had procured 23.5 lakh tonnes of gram during Rabi Marketing Season 2022-23.
