It keeps you alert and helps you wake up. If you ever have to struggle with sleep even after drinking coffee, then this is the reason for it. 

At the same time, when it comes to the right time to drink coffee, then you should wait at least an hour after getting up after sleeping. Coffee should be drunk only after this. Actually, the cortisol level that keeps the person awake then starts decreasing. If you really want to take advantage of coffee, then you should wait an hour after waking up.

Why wait for an hour? 

When we wake up, our cortisol level is at its peak. Cortisol, which is associated with stress, increases your ability to be alert. So when your cortisol level is high and you consume caffeine, it can work against it as well. So you better wait for an hour.
