Union Minister Nitinal Gadkari has recently announced that the Bharat NCAP crash test program will start from October 1. How is car crash testing done?

What is the speed during crash test?

During Global NCAP testing, the car is run at a speed of 64kmph, after running at the specified speed, the car is hit by the barrier lying in front. In crash testing, different ratings are given for adult and child protection.

Talking about BNCAP testing, the speed for front offset testing in India will also be 64 kmph, side impact testing will be done at a speed of 50 and pole side impact testing will be done at a speed of 29 kmph. According to the new safety norms of the Government of India, it will be mandatory for the vehicles to meet both side impact and front offset crash tests.

Who sits in the car and how many cameras are there?

At the time when the crash testing of the car is done, at that time dummy models are made to sit in the car. How many cameras are installed during testing Till now, no exact figure has been revealed regarding the number of cameras, but it is mentioned in many reports that during testing, 8 to 10 cameras capture the car from different angles. .

Global NCAP vs Bharat NCAP: How many points are required for 5 star rating?

While Global NCAP has a separate protocol for testing, Bharat NCAP will have a separate protocol. A car needs to score 34 points in adult protection during GNCAP testing, 16 points in front crash test, 16 points in side impact test and 2 points in seatbelt reminder for a 5 star safety rating.

On the other hand, in BNCAP, any car has to score at least 27 points in adult protection and at least 41 points in child protection to get a 5 star rating. Front offset, side impact and pole side impact are checked during crash testing.

CNG-EV will also be tested

Till now crash testing of CNG and electric vehicles is not done but BNCAP will test these models as well. It is worth noting that the crash testing of the vehicles is done only once, as this whole process is quite expensive.
