Now since Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will formally become part of this group from January 1, 2024, the number of countries included in the group will increase. 23 countries gave applications to join BRICS

Kwatra had said that 23 countries have submitted applications to join BRICS. Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Argentina have emerged as strong contenders for membership of the group. He told the media in Delhi on Monday, "Our attitude on expansion in BRICS is positive."
